BT Openreach to Extend its Fibre Optic Network: Aiming to Triple the Speed

BT Openreach is all set to improve the UK's standing on Broadband speed charts. The company announced its three pronged strategy for giving a push to broadband in the country. Openreach announced that it would be commercially launching its new broadband plan with average download speed ranging from 110 Mbps to 300 Mbps. The program is likely to be launched in 2012. The data will be carried over FTTP or Fibre to the Premises. This will ensure that you receive maximum speed on your network.

Speaking at the occasion, Liv Garfield, Openreach chief executive, “Today is a significant step in the UK’s broadband journey. These developments will transform broadband speeds across the country and propel the UK up the broadband league tables.”

BT Openreach would be making further improvement in its offerings as now it has received approval for doubling the speed on its FTTC or Fibre to the Cabinet networks. After this approval, Openreach would be able to increase its speed from 40 Mbps to 80 Mbps.

Openreach has already launched FTTP or Fibre to the Premises service. In the initial phase, the service would be available in six locations. However, later on its scope would be widened. FTTP network would use company's earlier FTTC network, where Fibre is used from BT Exchange to the cabinet and then copper is deployed for transferring the data. Under new service, the last mile copper connection would be converted to Fibre, thus ensuring faster and smoother data communication.
