Amazon to Unveil Kindle Tablet on September 28?

We have heard a lot about Amazon tablet or should we say tablets. While there had been much speculation about the vital stats of the tablets, nothing has been said about the probable launch date of the new "iPad Killer". However, it looks like that the unveiling is just round the corner. Amazon is currently handing out invitations for a special event, which is scheduled for September 28. Could this be the event where we get to see the new tablet? Let's keep our fingers crossed that the event is not meant for the introduction of new gen Kindle reader.

The biggest draw for the tablet is going to be its price point. Amazon is expected to price it below $e00 mark, thus creating a new sub-market in tablet segment. However, the device is likely to run on Android 2, which will make it more of a Nook Color competitor than an 'iPad Killer'. The device is likely to have 7 inch screen, which takes it further away from Apple iPad territory. With this information, it will be safe to assume that Amazon is not planning to compete with Apple. With the sales performance of other non-Apple tablets, we would say that Amazon has taken a wise step.

The tablet is expected to rely heavily on cloud computing, and this feature will provide synergies for Amazon, as it has its own powerful cloud computing infrastructure. Consequently, the tablet will not have much on-board storage, which again would help keeping a check on the costs. Also, it is being rumored that the tablet would lack the frills like camera and 3G capabilities.

Why do things have to be either “Apple product” killers or “non Apple product” competitors? Apple got the jump on the tablet by a good 3 years and they’ll always stay years ahead of the competition simply because of buying power, great design an iOS.

If it’s not an iPad, it’s an “also ran”. Another product to talk big but fail miserably and end up in a fire sale.
