There is no denying the fact that Apple has massive cult following. However, there are some perfectly good reasons behind this mass following. As a testimony to the quality control at Apple, the company enjoys 89 percent retention rate. This fact has been disclosed in a report issued by investment bank UBS. The more surprising fact is that iPhone's nearest competitor is HTC, which enjoys a retention rate of mere e9 percent. Though, the report may become a cause of worry for Apple, as the company has enjoyed retention rate as high as 95 percent in the past.
Surprisingly, third position is occupied by RIM. The company still enjoys the loyalty of 33 percent of its users, who claimed that they will prefer RIM over other brands while purchasing their next smartphone. However, the company lost half of its comrades in the span of 18 months. Back in March 2010, UBS had conducted the similar survey and 66 percent of RIM owners had pledged their allegiance to the brand. Among other also-rans are Samsung and Motorola, which enjoy 28 percent and 25 percent retention rate respectively.
The report also delved into the 'stickiness' of operating systems. Android is not as lucky as iOS when it comes to accumulating a massive army of zealous followers. Only 60 percent of the OS' users said that they would be choosing the platform again. 30 percent of its users clearly stated that iOS would be the operating system of their choice in the future. Circumstances may be different for different companies, but the telecom sector is likely to continue its journey upwards, with 80 percent of the survey takers claiming that they intend to up their capital spending on mobile devices.
