Facebook seems to be on a mad spree to revamp itself. However, the good thing is that the social networking site is becoming more user friendly in the process. The latest change in the site is about how you organize and categorize your ‘Friends’. Well, we know that not all friends are created equal, hence Facebook has introduced ‘smart list’.

So, now you can show off your posts, photos and other such banalities to a limited set of friends. You do not want your boss to see your party pictures on Wednesday, right! Now, Facebook will automate the process and will classify your friends on the basis of their proximity to you and other criterions such as whether they work with you or study with you. Though these are default sets, but you can customize the lists according to your own criterion. Interestingly, the feature of classifying your friends in various lists had been around for a long time. However, the feature was so cumbersome and complicated that only a tiny fraction of users actually employed this.

These lists will also ensure that you remain updated about the key people in your life, instead of getting bombarded with status updates and photos from gazillion of your friends. You can also set up email notifications for alerting you every time your contacts post any updates or pictures. Facebook will also ensure that you do not get to see mundane updates from your ‘acquaintances’ and that only major updates are featured on your feed.

The new feature is very obviously inspired from a similar feature available on competing social networking site Google+. However, if competition is making Facebook come out of its slumber and make its site a little better, we are not going to complain.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
