Microsoft had been sending teasers about its Windows 8 for quite some time. And now the OS seems to be ripe for demo and the occasion would be Microsoft’s BUILD conference, which is scheduled to be held in California next week. It is expected that Microsoft Windows president Steven Sinofsky will be demoing the OS using a Samsung device. The news has got the consumers and the industry all excited, though it is not the first time tablet demo of Windows 8. The OS was demoed earlier in July this year.
At the very same time, news about the OS are pouring in. MSDN recently posted a video of the OS on its Building Windows 8 blog. The blog shows the short and sweet time taken by the OS to boot. Microsoft tweaked the way an OS shuts down. Instead of shutting down both kernel session and user session, Windows 8 only closes down user session, thereby drastically reducing the time required for booting up again. The blog claims that the new platform’s boot time is about 30 to 70 percent faster than comparative systems.
Windows 8 will also incorporate Hyper V virtualization, which is sure going to please power users. Hyper V had been around for a long time, but was only used in server products. With Windows 8, even the consumer products would be able to use this functions without downloading the add ons like VirtualBox. So all in all, it can be said that Microsoft is packing up Windows 8 with as many features as possible. And for users, it is only a good thing. Now, let’s just hope Windows 8 does not turn out to be a dud like Vista. Instead, we would like to see an XP like encore.
