Google Tweaks Docs, Calendar and Gmail: Makes them Available Offline

Google Docs and Gmail are very useful tool, there is no doubt about it. However, there come times, when we need to access them, but are stuck in a deadzone and do not have access to internet. This is the time when we curse ourselves for not keeping a back up on a flash drive. However, no need to fret now! Google, via its blog, announced that now you can access Gmail, Docs and Calendar offline too.

For offline access, you will need to install an app, which is available through Chrome Web Store. The app features a 'Gmail Offline' icon and once you lose connection, you can keep browsing using this new tool. The button is located on the "new tab" page.

However, there would be certain limitations, but you still would be able to perform most common tasks. For example, you can read, reply and organize your Gmail offline. You can also archive email, whereas Google Docs will let you view your documents. As for Google Calendar, you can view events on your calendar, even if you are offline. It will also let you RSVP to the invites.

Since, the tweak is still in the early stage, so currently, there is no option to edit documents or Calendar. However, Google has assured that it is working on the issue. Google had first announced this tweak during its I/O 2011 convention and now it is available for the masses.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
