Every company, worth its stock price, knows the importance of luring customers, but now they have to chase yet another coveted
breed, that is of developers. Microsoft recently launched a campaign to attract developers for its WP7 platform and now it is doing the same for its upcoming Windows 8 operating system. And apparently, during its TechEd New Zealand conference, Microsoft showed off upcoming Windows 8 slates, powered by quad core processors.
According to the company, it is working with OEMs to manufacture next gen tablets and these tablets are more likely to be targeted towards corporate users. The company's principal architect Patrick Havesi said, “We are seeing people bringing in iPads with a Bluetooth keyboard, a mouse, a pen, and all this other stuff.” According to him, Microsoft is working towards creating a hybrid tablet, thus eliminating the carrying extra paraphernalia.
Another USP of the upcoming quad core would be their battery power. Havesi claims that the next generation tablets would be able to run for up to 24 hours on a single recharge. Microsoft also said that the new tablets will come with "brilliant HD screens in a very thin form factor". The company, however, did not name the quad core chips it would be using. Many major processor companies such as Qualcomm and Nvidia have already developed quad core chips. Overall, the details sound interesting and intriguing at the same time. Microsoft is likely to shed more light on its tablet plans during its BUILD conference, which scheduled for September 13th.
