Google released its new SDK which will enable developers to
design apps for Google TV. Google in its release said, "With
the upcoming OS update to Honeycomb, Google TV devices will be Android
compatible. That means developers can build great new Android apps for TV,
optimise existing mobile or tablet apps for TV, and distribute those apps
through Android Market.”
Though Google admitted that Google TV
apps are still in the nascent stage, but it expects things to pick up with the introduction
of new Honeycomb update. The new SDK will enable to developers to optimize their
apps for big screen use. Google TV so far has been one of the lesser successful
ventures of Google. However, the company is looking to turn the tables with this
new development.
The attempt to integrate TV and web
is not new. Most of the tech bigwigs have tried it at one time or another, but
so far none of them have met with any definitive success. The new SDK will help
in determining whether the app is "a good fit for TV". It will also let the
developers know if the app is lacking in certain areas. However, you need to
wait for sometime before browsing apps on your TV as the company did not
provide any release date for final from SDK.
