There's no stopping Apple and it is likely to continue marching ahead. According to Macquarie Securities Group, Apple will sell 27 million iPhone in its third quarter, while the tally will increase to 40 million in the fourth quarter of the year. Apple is expected to launch the new version of its iPhone in near future and the new model will fuel the demand for the ultimate smartphone in the fourth quarter of this year. These figures will also consolidate Apple's position as the world's top smartphone selling company. Apple recently passed Nokia to take up the top spot.
Apple shipped 20.34 million iPhone in the previous quarter, while in the first quarter of the year it had sold 18.7 million iPhone. If the rumors are to be believed, then Apple may launch a lighter version of its blockbuster phone at a lower price point. This step is expected to increase the demand for the phone manifold. Though, for the sake of conservatism, we are going to assume that Macquarie did not use this assumption for coming up with the potential sales figures.
If Apple decides to enter the mid to lower price segment of smartphones, then the move will hurt Android the most. Currently Android OS has bigger market share than iOS, but this is due to the wide variety of Android phones available. Various manufacturers are churning out Android phones to cater to all the price points. Apple is expected to launch its new generations products in mid-September.
