Are 3D Smartphones Affecting your Health?

Mobile phones may cause tumor or so is claimed by some research reports and now there is a new study which says that 3D smartphones are harmful for your eyesight. This is not the first time 3D has received flak. When Nintendo launched its 3D gaming console Nintendo 3DS, many of its users complained about queasiness. And now it is 3D smartphones like Evo 3D and Optimus 3D to join 3DS's rank and receive their share of criticism.

According to a study conducted by Professor Martin Banks, 3D smartphones may cause serious discomfort and may lead to weaker eyesight. The study claims that this damage is mainly caused due to the fact that the phone screen is generally held too close to eyes. The study was conducted on a group of 24 adult patients.

The study claimed that mobile 3D images are more likely to cause discomfort than the 3D cinema images. Cinema images, on the other hand, are more prone to lead to weaker eyesight. However, most of these effects are temporary in nature. The feeling of queasiness generally goes away, if you stop using 3D content. Similarly, the effects such as eye strain are reversible too. The study warns that these effects may limit the 3D technology from going mainstream. The study was published in the Journal of Vision.
