Facebook Gets Ready to Face New Competitors with its own News Platform

Facebook is an undeniable success and is the reigning monarch of social networking space. However, now it has a competitor in the form of Google+ and Facebook is now set to fight the battle with new weapons. According to the rumors, the networking site is now planning to launch its own news feed feature. Under this new feature, Facebook will cull news from various sources and will present them via an app. The service is said to be nicknamed "Facebook Editions".

Forbes has also claimed that Facebook has already signed up with more than a dozen news outlets for this service. These outlets include The Daily, Washington Post and CNN. Though, there is paucity of information about the alleged service, but it is expected that it will let the users customize the interface. Facebook will likely get a cut of revenue from advertisements. Both Facebook and the collaborating companies have refused to comment on the rumors.

Facebook is now in desperate need to come up with novel solutions for keeping its 700 million plus subscribers hooked to the service. Google seems to have hit the right spot with Google+, which is now likely to become the single biggest competitor to the social networking site. Facebook also recently launched video chat in collaboration with Skype.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
