Netflix is currently facing criticism from its subscribers in the US for its increased plan rates. The rental company has decoupled its DVD
plan from the streaming plans and the decision has not gone down well with the masses. However, the company is also planning to expand its market in the near future and rumors suggest that it may enter the UK market in 2012. If the rumors have any grain of truth in them then Sky and Amazon's Lovefilm have got something to worry about.
Though Netflix is keeping mum but Variety magazine quotes some of its sources at leading film distributors claiming that the service might start in 2012. Netflix had recently announced its international expansion plans. The company is also looking to cover Spain along with the UK.
Netflix had phenomenal success in the US where it managed to send most of its traditional competitors to bankruptcy courts. However, things would be different in the UK. The market already has some good players such as Virgin Media in the streaming space. Lovefilm is also doing pretty good for itself and thus Netflix won't have the advantage of being an early bird. Since Netflix is not even ready to comment on the rumors, it is unclear whether it would be using the same price structure as in the US. So, would you drop your current subscription in favor of Netflix as and when it arrives in the UK?
