Apple Tweaks App Pricing: Apps to be Priced Higher Outside of the US

Apple has decided to play 'Netflix' in the UK and has raised the price of its apps. In some cases, the app prices have been raised by more than 25 percent. According to Tap Mag, the final price of apps is not determined by the developer but by Apple. While submitting their app to App Store, the developers have the freedom to choose that tier in which they want to place the app, but the final price within that tier is determined by Apple. In its latest move, Apple has kept its US pricing intact, while increasing the price for the users outside of the US.

In one swoop, Apple has raised the price of £0.59 apps to £0.69 per app. Similarly, £1.19 app will now cost you £1.49. You may not care about a few pence here and there, but if you are used to downloading apps worth £399.99 or more, then be ready to shell out extra £100 per app. Though, Apple has been quiet about the change, but it is believed that the changes have been made due to changes forex rates.

The price changes have brought about mixed reactions. However, it is the developers who are complaining about the stealth changes in the pricing. Apple has also changed pricing for Mac App Store. So what is your reaction to the new pricing? Are you ok with sacrificing a few more pennies at the altar of Steve Jobs?

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
