There's an absolutely classic strategy in the tech industry: holding something back from an initial release so that us little consumers get all excited about something again just as it starts to leave public consciousness. The white iPhone is a classic example. And now Nintendo are employing the same tactic to boost 3DS excitement which has dipped hard after the preliminary hype.
The Netflix app which will soon be available for download could revolutionise the 3DS. The app will transform the 3DS into a mere 3D game console to a multi-media 3D wonder capable of streaming the latest movies in the third dimension.
In an extra push to attract new fans the 3DS is also pimping its app store up with new games such as
Extreme Hangman 2.
But are a few apps enough to make the 3DS desirable? We've all heard the reports that the new Nintendo portable device is a headache inducing eye-frazzler and that's after a few minutes on Mario Karts; after Avatar your eyes will be about to explode.
But on the other hand, I've always been tempted by the 3Ds and I find myself more tempted than ever now that I know Netflix is on the way. (As always though, a Netflix subscription is required.)
