Google Gives a Drastic Makeover to its App Market

Google is in the process of rebranding its services and this includes streamlining the processes and cosmetic makeovers. Recently, the company added new features to its email service and now it has moved on to its App Market. The rumors about the updated app market had been floating around for quite some time, but now it has happened for real. According to Google, the new layout makes it easier to look for new apps and games. It has also simplified the procedure for buying apps and renting movies. The new app market is available for the devices running Android 2.2 or higher.

Google now enables you to rent movies from your Android Market. The service starts at $1.99. Essentially, now you can stream movies on your phone and if inclined, you may also download them for later viewing. Another feature is related to book purchases. Now, you can use Android market for purchasing books. Both these services will be tied to your Google account and hence would be available on multiple devices. However, both these services would be available in the US only.

Updated version has also set aside bigger space for displaying featured apps, thus making it easier for you to discover the new and interesting apps. New features like Editors' Choice apps and staff picks would make it easier to get hold of trending apps. Google is expected to roll out the new version in coming weeks. The update will be delivered automatically to the eligible devices, so you just need to sit back and wait a little.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
