HP to Go Ahead with 'Ultrabook' Laptops, Beating Asus

Earlier this year, Intel had outed its "Ultrabook" Notebook concept. Intel is basically working on a tablet cum notebook hybrid.  While introducing the idea during Computex, Intel envisioned a gadget with the capabilities of a notebook and the portability of a tablet. Intel had also said that Asus will come up with a flagship product called UX21, but looks like Asus has to contend with some competition from HP. The Taiwanese company is looking to hit the markets with UX21 during the holiday season. But HP may just prove to be more nimble.

Reportedly, HP is working on two Ultrabooks and has collaborated with Foxconn for the manufacturing of the hybrid machines. The notebooks will run on Intel Core i7 chips and are likely to use Windows 7 platform. It is also rumored that Foxconn has already started shipping out the tablets. Though, the company has not released any statement regarding the launch of the Ultrabooks, but it is widely believed that we may get to see them in summer season.

Ultrabooks are expected to tow the footsteps of MacBook Air and such other compact notebooks. However, their USP would be their lower price. Essentially, Ultrabooks would be MBA for the mass market. Asus is working with Pegatron for its Ultrabooks but now is in the danger of being beaten by HP. HP, on the other hand, needs to ensure that its Ultrabook endeavor does not meet the fate of its TouchPad project.
