Gifts Of The Future: 3D Chocolate Printer

Everyone's had a chocolate egg for Easter or a chocolate plaque for their birthday, personalised with icing. But the days of lazy spider web style text are over because coca gifts are stepping it up to the next level with a newly developed 3D printer courtesy of researchers from the University of Exeter.

At last a 3D product we can all get excited about! The printer, which produces 3D chocolate by building up successive layers could revolutionise gift shopping, with many retailers already showing interest. For those of you sour folks out there, who lack a sweet-tooth, the project could move across the retailer arena into other areas providing consumers with a new way to interact with products and customise gifts.

Lead researcher, Dr Liang Hao, said: “What makes this technology special is that users will be able to design and make their own products. In the long term it could be developed to help consumers custom-design many products from different materials, “From reproducing the shape of a child's favourite toy to a friend's face, the possibilities are endless and only limited by our creativity.”

So what would you print in 3D?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
