Apple might launch a new version of its iPad 2 this September, it won't be the a iPad 3, but apparently it will be a Plus version.
If you're holding out for the iPad 3 then you might have to wait longer than previously thought as Apple could potentially unveil an improved iPad 2 Plus device later this year alongside the eagerly awaited iPhone 5 and its new iOS 5 operating system.
“There are some indications from the supply chain that Apple may look to introduce an ‘iPad 2 Plus’ device as they put out request for quotes from various component suppliers for this marginally different device,” FBR Capital Markets analyst Craig Berger has announced.
It is thought that the new iPad 2 Plus would have marginal differences, and these could be an improved screen – with the current screen going from 132ppi to 250-300 ppi – but this just speculation. Increase storage has been muted too.
There have been several rumours that the iPad 3, or whatever it is called, could come out this year. But we’ve never really taken them seriously. We went to try and get a iPad 2 last week and they’re still sold out.
Adding doubt to his own claims Berger added: “While we find this new commentary interesting, we await more confirming data points from other supply chain contacts before fully believing a new iPad device is coming in 2011.”
The idea that Apple could release another version and manage to make enough to satisfy demand to us is just pie in the sky. But when it comes to Apple, nothing can be ruled out – but this just seems like wishful thinking to us.
