Google Overhauls Itself: Renames Blogger and Picasa

Google is pretty busy nowadays, what with the whole Google+ launch and the re-branding drive. The internet search giant is also planning to streamline its offerings, decluttering and simplifying them. It seems like the entire tech industry is in the re-branding frenzy. Recently, we had beleaguered Nokia doing away with Ovi brand and bringing all its products and services under Nokia umbrella. Though, Google is in the exact opposite position to Nokia, but still the company is planning to unify its products and services and augment its brand value.

Google is also bringing about many functional changes to its mail service. The new mail client is more customizable and user friendly. Google will also be modifying the User Interface of Blogger. It is also likely to get a new moniker 'Google Blogs'. Picasa, on the other hand, is likely to remain just the same, though it would now be called 'Google Photos'. Google, clearly, is not using its creative Android naming streak here.

Google is expected to wrap up its latest endeavor in next six week. This would mean that the entire exercise would be over just in time for the launch of Google+. Incidental? Didn't think so. Picasa and Blogger are among the most popular Google services. The company had acquired Blogger in 2003 while Picasa joined Google in 2004. However, Google is keeping its superstar service YouTube out of this exercise, at least for the time being. Presumably, the company does not want to bring back the bitter memories of Google Video.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
