More iPhone 5 predictions have surfaced today via Taiwanese tech blog Digitimes, which is reporting the new iPhone 5 will be a come with minor updates over the current iPhone 4 and not the full over-haul we have been hearing rumours about recently.

In all honesty the rumours and predictions and have flip-flopped back and forth on a weekly basis recently - so we’re taking the latest predictions with a healthy pinch of salt.

According to the latest rumours Apple will only make minor alterations in the next refresh of its iPhone handset and have suggest that it "does not seem to have any major updates from the iPhone 4".

If it does come with only minor changes this would be a little bit of a disappointment. And ironically would be similar to what Apple have done with the new iPad 2 – an evolution, not a revolution.

It would suggest that Apple will include the new A5 processor and according to the new reports not a lot else. Leaving the unique selling point for the handset the new iOS 5 operating system.

If Apple does indeed want to keep the costs low it could viable prediction – but we would expect the phone to share some of the new design signatures from the iPad 2 – and as a minimum a new camera.

It might be the case we’re still on course for two versions of the new phone, but there’s nothing to suggest that this is anymore than just rumours. Unfortunately at the moment we're completely in the dark.

Having claimed that Apple has recently ordered 15 million iPhone 5 units from suppliers ahead of a September release date, Digitimes continued its recent run of iPhone 5 predictions announcing "sources pointed out that as the iPhone 5, which does not seem to have any major update from iPhone 4, is already set for shipment in September."

Over the last couple of months we’ve had a myriad of different iPhone 5 predictions. Everything from a new slimmer form factor with a larger 720p HD display, metal or carbon casing, an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities, a 1GHz dual-core processor and the recently announced iOS 5 operating system – which is probably the only certainty at the moment.

It seems that it’s every week we get some new predictions and leaks contravening the last set of rumours – so at the moment we’re still in the dark. All we can be sure of at the moment is that the new iPhone is coming in September. Other than that it’s just a guessing game. But with Android eating into Apple’s market share they can’t afford to rest on their laurels.
