Despite Slowdown in Mature Markets, Facebook Crosses 750 Million Users Mark

Over this weekend, some milestones were conquered and among the achievers was Facebook, which is now responsible for socially connecting about 10 percent of the total human population on earth. Being popular was never this easy, but thanks to Facebook, all you need is some good googling skills and you can have that smashing online persona which can bring you a posse of 500-odd friends.

Back to Facebook, the social networking site is said to have crossed 750 million users road mark. Though, the figure is not officially confirmed, but some not-so-sophisticated extrapolation techniques can verify the stat. Facebook had released its previous number estimates this summer and it does not provide stats on regular intervals. Looks like the next estimate will be provided after crossing a billion user mark.

The news is of increased importance as recently there were reports referring to the slump in Facebook progress march. According to a report, the social networking site is now facing stagnation in mature markets like the US, the UK and Canada. Amid growing concerns about security, people are now taking down their profiles.

However, if Facebook is waning in mature markets, it is thriving at a much higher speed in emerging markets like India, Brazil and Russia. All these markets are showing high double digit growth rate and looks like Facebook party will go on in these markets for quite some time. Facebook is also working big time to woo the ultimate market, China. The company is reportedly working on its Chinese debut.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
