HP is all set to conquer tablet market, or at least that's what the company itself is thinking. While its TouchPad would be making its market debut next month, HP seems to be so sure of tasting sweet success that it is already planning to launch one more 7-incher in August. The company has apparently placed some solid orders with the OEMs. Hey, a little bit of overconfidence never hurts, right!
Talking of over confidence, the company is looking to produce 400,000 to 450,000 tablets per month. Now, let's just compare it with the world's second largest selling tablet, Asus Transformer Eee Pad, which sold an average of 200,000 tablets per month. Add to it the fact, that most of the major companies including Acer, have drastically slashed their tablet targets. Well, now HP's 400,000 tablets per month dream has started to look outright absurd. However, in HP's defense, the figure includes sales projection of both 9.7 inch and 7 inch tablets.
HP will power its tablets with Qualcomm chip and the OS platform will be homebrewed Web OS. Somehow, I am not getting too excited about Web OS's faceoff with iOS and Android. We already know the outcome, don't we! HP had acquired WebOS as a part of its takeover of Palm last year. However, we have to laud the company for resisting the temptation of joining the hoards of Android tablets, where manufacturers are struggling to stand out in the increasing crowd. But apart from this, the HP tablet saga seems to have bleak future. The TouchPad will come with about 300 apps which have been specifically adapted for the tablet. iPad has more than 80,000 dedicated apps.
