If you are still using Skype iPhone app on your iPad, then fret not. Skype is said to be working on iPad specific app, which will be released real soon. YouTube allegedly hosted a video which demoed the app and its features. However, the video is no longer available on the site.

Though, there is no official announcement about the launch of the app. However, Skype's Rick Osterloh alluded to the upcoming app and said that the new app is likely to emulate iPhone app's success. He said that iPhone app had "a userbase that doubled in just a month’s time". That's some performance.

Though, the new app looks very much like iPhone app, but it still not on par with the desktop version. The app lacks various features like document sharing. The new app also makes full use of camera availability on iPad 2. Though, Skype app poses direct threat to iPhone's proprietary chat service FaceTime, the company claims that Apple had been "super supportive" to it. Hmm, that's not what we generally get to hear about the Cupertino company. Skype did not even rule out "deeper integration" moving forward.  "Deeper Integration" would be an interesting phenomenon since Skype has recently been acquired by Apple's arch enemy Microsoft. However, we will let the two corporate giants fight their own battles and in the meantime, we will get ready to enjoy the iPad app as and when it arrives.

I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
