Sony Teases S1 & S2 In New Video Series

Sony has begun to tease the tech world with their first foray into the world of tablets as they have just released a rather lovely video that promotes the looks of their two new tablets the S1 and S2 in a Heath-Robinson teaser video.

The S1 and S2 are expected to launch in September, the video is part of 5-episode story dubbed "Two Will" with the next four episodes expected to be released over the coming months.

What’s known about the tablets is still a bit sketchy, what we do know is that they will be running Android HoneyComb 3. The S1 is sporting a 9.4-inch form factor and is powered by the Tegra 2 chip. Nothing massively exciting there then. The S2 is a little more exciting as it's a dual-screen clam-shell design, which features two 5.5-inch screens, Tegra 2 chip and a camera on board.

The S2 is shaped like a clamshell which looks strikingly like a big Nintendo DS. The device has two 5.5-inch touch screens – certainly no bad thing in our books. After all, who needs multi-tasking when you can have one screen for internet and one for emails?

The ‘slate-styled’ S1 is less of a departure from the standard tablet mould, but a curved back and its 9.4-inch screen is a slight break from the norm, and apparently helps the device balance properly when held with one hand.

In terms of hardware, both are expected to feature Wi-Fi, but there are already rumours that there will 3G and 4G versions that will follow in due course. Both tabs are almost certainly will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb

As you would expect from a Sony device, it’s likely to make use of its new Sony PlayStation Store – this might be why the S2 sports more than a little bit of DNA from Nintendo’s 3DS.

So what do you think of the new tablets, we’ve got one the looks like it in direct competition with Apple’s iPad and another that looks like a giant DS – is Sony on the right path or have to late to the party ? Let us know below.

And enjoy the video teaser.
