Samsung Reiterates its Allegiance to Google Android

There, Samsung said it. It is not planning to venture beyond Google realm and would use only Android for its tablets. The company, which is the largest smartphone and tablet maker in the world after Apple, owes much of its clout to the advent of Android and thus is going to remain loyal to its tried and tested platform.

Samsung's 7 inch Galaxy Tab was one of the earliest 'iPad killers' to surface and so far it has enjoyed the success which has more or less eluded other tablets. The company is now launching a full range of Galaxy Tabs, with 8.9 inch and 10.1 inch models hitting the market pretty soon. Both these tablets will run on Honeycomb version of Android, whereas original Galaxy Tab is also tipped to get the operating system upgrade pretty soon.

Samsung also recently made public its ambition to come up with a 4G tablet, which again would use Android platform. The company is currently negotiating with carriers in the US and Asia for the development.

We are not surprised with the company's decision. After all, it does not have many options besides Android. Windows 7 and Windows Phone 7 have not proved to be tablet friendly. Other niche operating systems such iOS and QNX are not commercially feasible. In any case, Samsung is currently fighting a bitter legal battle with Apple over patent infringement charges.

But what this allegiance to Android means for Bada. Samsung has clearly stated that it is not abandoning Bada. Probably, the same way as Nokia is not abandoning Symbian. But since, the company would be spending its R&D bucks on Android development, we should not expect to see anything big happening with Bada. And using Bada for tablets is certainly not on the cards.
