If you are an App developer and are looking to make some money off your paid apps, then you would be better off collaborating with Apple App Store, than with Android MarketPlace. Though, Android Market is on its way to meet Apple App Store heads-on, but it still has to go a long way when it comes to selling paid apps. According to a recent study conducted by research firm Distimo, Apple users are more likely to buy paid apps than Android users.
So far, there are only 2 paid Android apps, which have been downloaded for more than 500,000 times, whereas 6 paid Apple App Store apps have managed to cross this milestone. Similarly when it comes to paid games, only 5 Android games have experienced more than 250,000 downloads each. In comparison to this, 10 iPhone paid game apps garnered 250,000+ downloads in the US alone. The fact that Apple App Store has about three times more paid apps than Android Market does, but still the feat puts Apple App Store firmly in the top position for developers.
Distimo summarized its findings by claiming "These figures reveal how challenging it is for Android developers to monetize applications in the Google Android Market using a one-off fee monetization model." The research firm also pointed that several apps adopt different formats for different platforms. Various apps such as Angry Birds offer ad-supported version for Android platform while keeping them paid and ad-free on other operating systems.
