Samsung's newly launched Galaxy S 2 smartphone has gone straight to the top of the smartphones charts in the UK and knocked Apple's iPhone 4 of its perch.
The new Samsung is the follow up to the very popular Galaxy S and sports a dual-core processor under the hood and boasts the best screen we've ever seen with their pin-sharp 4.3-inch Super AMOLED screen.
Add into the Android broth 1GB of ram, a very impressive 8-mega pixel rear camera with full 1080p recording functionality and there's no place where this phone has a weakness. Factor in that it's running the latest brew of Andriod 2.3 and we can see why this phone is flying of the shelves.
"Samsung has leapfrogged Apple and HTC’s best handsets this month with its Galaxy S II deservedly stealing a march. With a number of great deals being offered by networks and retailers, this powerful and slick Android smartphone could be around and dominating the chart for a while," proclaimed Ernest Doku of uSwitch.
There really does seem to be a sea change in the Smartphone market and taking a look at the top phones sold, Android is dominating the top ten with it securing 8 positions of the 10 positions.
Apple is at number two and the Blackberry curve at a lonely number 9. Of the Android devices, 5 were HTC, the original Samsung Galaxy S and the very impressive offering from Sony and their Xperia Arc.
“HTC and Android are still big winners this month, with HTC claiming half of the Top 10 handsets and Android now powering 80% of the chart," said Doku. "This really stokes the fire in the manufacturer wars, which is set to intensify with an amazing selection of mobiles. This could include iPhone's oft-rumoured follow up - due to launch in the coming months."
