Dell are looking to the Streak Pro to try and make a dent in Apple’s dominance of the tablet market – they’ve already tried with both the Streak and Streak 7 which failed to capture anyone’s imagination – could it be third time lucky ?
The latest tablet from the PC maker, the Streak Pro super-sizes the design with a more tablet-like 10inch display – compared to the 5in and 7in displays used in the company’s existing tablet products.
The tablet with be shipping with the de facto Honeycomb 3 and is even thought to be one of the first tablets to come with the 3.1 version of the tablet operating system.
The Dell Streak Pro will be a 10-inch tablet and will sport a 1280 x 800 resolution which is better than Apple’s current 1024 x 768 offering with the iPad and iPad 2.
There will be 3 options regarding the storage with 16GB, 32GB and 65Gb available from launch. Prices have yet to be announced but they need to mindful that if it’s not on par with Apple’s tablet this will effect sales substantially.
The Dell Streak Pro will also come with a 5-mega pixel rear facing camera, as well a front facing camera that will be a 2-mega pixel snapper for video calls.
It will also sport Bluetooth 2.1 connectivity, and will also come with support for Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n wireless networking as standard
Dell will be hoping that the Streak Pro, equipped with a 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, which the latest Samsung tablets are sporting, will make the Streak Pro a compelling HoneyComb tablet – we think on paper it will, but there are so many HoneyComb tablets in the works – will this be the on that takes HoneyComb into Apple’s back yard it is not yet clear.
It includes a tough aluminium back panel to prevent damage when dropped. A June launch date has been suggested, but as yet unconfirmed by Dell.
