No iPhone 5 This Year: Apple Plans for iPhone 4S Instead

We all had been holding our breath for iPhone 5, but it is quite possible that Apple may decide to launch iPhone 4S instead of coming up iPhone 5. Apart from mere nomenclature issues, it also shows that Apple would not be bringing any drastic changes to its smash hit smartphone. However, it may cast its net wider by bringing compatibility for T-Mobile and Sprint network.

Jefferies analyst Peter Misek said in his research note, "According to our industry checks, the device should be called iPhone 4S and include minor cosmetic changes, better cameras, A5 dual-core processor, and HSPA+ support." The note sounds credible enough, as there already were rumors about A5 chips. And if Apple is planning to bring HSPA+ support then we can also rule out iPhone 5 or 4S to be 4G capable. Though, some carriers may just advertise it as 4G since the guidelines for 4G are not very clear.

So, basically, 2011 had been a busy year for iPhone so far, but again, instead of coming up with something original, Apple just offered the same old stale product in fresh new packaging. First, we got to see Verizon iPhone, then came the long awaited white iPhone, which was good old iPhone 4 in non-color. And now, we will have iPhone 4S, with some new carriers and probably a little better chipset.

Since, Apple would be upgrading the phone to HSPA+ category, the least it could have done to make it completely 4G capable. However, there are certain issues with that process, most of the 4G products can provide you with super fast speed, but at the very same time there are massive energy guzzlers too. So, do you think iPhone 4S will bring enough innovation on the table to persuade you to upgrade from iPhone 4?

“instead of coming up with something original, Apple just offered the same old stale product in fresh new packaging.”

Grow up, no phone can touch the iPhone 4 and even if they skipped a year I doubt that any other company would come close. Other phone companies are 2 years behind Apple on a lot of features.

No one in their right mind expected iPhone 5. Apple release the product one year, innovate the next year, upgrade the year after. Repeat the innovate/upgrade cycle.

    Initial product – iPhone
    Innovate – iPhone 3G
    Update – iPhone 3GS
    Innovate – iPhone 4
    Update – iPhone 4S
