Apple iPhone Price Slashed – rumours of a new model

iPhone Shoppers who are still sitting on the fence on whether to buy the iPhone will be very happy to hear that finally prices are dropping for the 8GB model of this revolutionary device by £100 from £269, to a more wallet friendly £169.

However, there seems to be no plans to decrease the prices on the 16GB model from £329 or a change in the three tariffs that are currently available.

O2, the exclusive mobile phone operator in the UK is believed to have sold around 190,000 iPhones in the first eight weeks of the handset’s availability on this side of the Atlantic – 10,000 units short of its target. However, the iPhone remains O2’s fastest-selling mobile phone, and the operator’s move in February to double iPhone owners’ call time and text allowances added to the appeal of the handset.

The handset itself has garnered many positive reviews and it’s a brilliant step forward in mobile technology. A definite success for Apple to say it is their first furore into the mobile market, they seem to be providing the same innovation they have for so many years in the computer sector.

The move however to slash prices so soon after T-Mobile the operator in Germany have done seems to suggest that they are clearing stocks in preparation for the release of the sequel to the iPhone. It is suggested the next iPhone will support 3G and could provide an even bigger boost to iPhone sales. Apple’s sole US operator – AT&T – has previously suggested a 3G iPhone would become available during 2008 and many believe that the product will be launched at Apple’s developer conference in June.

Personally I’m hoping for maybe a few more technology innovations than just 3G from their next phone.

Just to correct this article. Apple has NOT cut the price on the iphone.
It is O2 that has decided to do it.

    Thank you

  • Thanks Wildthing your right, its basically down to the release of the new 3G iphone and the amount of stock they have.
