Twitter Traffic Shoots Up After Super-Injunction Scandal.

I'm sure absolutely everyone is sick to death of hearing about these so called super-injunctions. Everyone apart from Twitter that is. After the whole affair kicked off, Twitter saw an explosion in traffic after heat magazine reading gossip vampires flocked to the site in such numbers that the social site saw its largest ever UK audience with a 14% increase.

If you've been asleep for a few weeks or you've ignored the story in favour of real news like fatal storms, bloody conflicts and Eastern revolutions (in which case congratulations) then here's a quick definition of the super-injunction.

Basically, it's a legal ban that stops the press from reporting about inconvenient allegations to the point they’re banned from even mentioning that the injunctions exist.

But all Hell broke loose after an anonymous whistle blowing Tweeter posted a list of famous actors, sports stars and TV presenters who have allegedly taken out an injunction.

On Monday a huge one in every 200 UK Web visits was to Twitter.com boosting the site to the position of 17th most viewed site in the country (up from 19th.) The Tweeter him/herself grow their number of followers from 22,000 to 108,135

And It wasn't just Twitter that benefited from the gossip fest either. Searches for the term ‘super injunction’ typed into Google, Bing and Yahoo have increased by 5,000 per cent in the last month, with over 500 unique search term variations that include the phrase.

It's yet another example of the power of social networking and the web in the fight for freedom of speech. If celebs get up to no good then the press have a right to alert the public. All us common folk have to put up with gossip we can't exactly take a super-injunction out against the office can we?

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
