Sony’s PSN Still Down After 7 Days

Sony's Playstation network is still broken a week after it failed and the rumours are getting more and more interesting to the cause of the downtime.

Anonymous has repeatedly denied that is behind the current downtime, although they did admit to bringing the network down earlier this month.

Unfortunately for PS3 gaming fans, Anonymous is gabble of hackers who more than likely live in the parents basements and aren’t working as one organised entity.

The lastest thinking is Sony may well have pulled the plug itself, and has continued to keep it down while they investigate the true extent of the intrusion.

Another rumour suggests that Sony is rebuilding the entire network to repel the tactics being used by hackers in light of the latest attacks, which as you can imagine could take a long time.

Yet another suggests that the release of a new custom firmware for jailbroken PS3 consoles has allowed users to go beyond the ability to install homebrew software to play pirated games, allowing users access to functionality reserved for paying members of the official PS3 developer programme.

Because developers are trusted and tracked by Sony, the previously impenetrable developer servers are privy to some pretty hard-core information, including credit-card checking mechanisms, according to the rumours.

This is, of course, all speculation, but the longer the outage continue the more far fetched the rumours will get, what do know is this is PR disaster for Sony and is losing them money, credibility and customers.
