It's been a while since we've been here, but it was only a matter of time before we returned. Yes it's Android update fail time again and this one is the strangest yet. Whether it's Google's fault or a problem with a network provider, Android updates never seem to go smoothly and once every few months an angry mob emerges on the web demanding that they receive the update to a phone which costs them a fortune each month.
(As we reported)After waiting patiently for an upgrade to Gingerbread (2.3) Galaxy S users got what they wanted and Vodafone began rolling out the OS complete with fixes and improvements , interface changes, a new keyboard, better power efficiency, multiple camera management and the ability to switch the device to 2G mode.
But then when things seemed to be going okay Google inexplicably halted the update and those who weren't quick enough were condemned to a life with 2.1
Poor Vodafone were left just as confused as their customers and said- “there are no known performance issues with the Vodafone variant of the device, we are working with Samsung to reinstate the roll out as soon as possible”.
It's understandable that not all updates can run smoothly all of the time, with Google, the phone manufacturer and the network provider all trying to work together. But this type of story is all too common. Can't we just have a reliable calendar of updates instead of "Oh it's coming soon." "No, you have to wait a bit." "It's on its way.." etc most of the anger stems from shabby customer service rather than actual software delays. If the update wasn't 100% ready then Google should have waited instead of messing everyone about.
