It's no surprise the Nokia N8 won the Mobile Choice Consumer Award for best camera phone. It is literally, the best camera phone on the market at the moment. With Nokia's reputation at an all time low the N8 came out at just the right time. It wasn't enough to save the Finnish company but it was enough to give something hopeful to cling on to. Smartphones all come with cameras as standard but the quality between handsets varies immensely. Nokia were clever to put more effort into the N8’s camera and target the happy snapper market. The N8's 12MP Carl Zeiss optics camera is designed to shoot high quality films; something were not yet used to with smartphones.
But Nokia couldn't stay at the top for too long. There's always something bigger and better on its way. The leak of a promo video online suggests that HTC are ready to launch a new smartphone with a 16 mega-pixel camera. The record breaking MP camera is set to come with dual LED flash and the handset itself will run on the Windows Phone 7.
Nothing is confirmed of course and the phone in the video could merely be a concept. Whether it's on its way or not, it's only a matter of time before someone takes a leaf from Nokia's book and provides us with an ultra high-end camera phone.
Hopefully the likes of the N8 and the mystery HTC handset will usher in a camera revolution and put an end to the grainy shaky smartphone videos which Sky News seems to love. The combination of a high-end camera and powerful video and photo editing software on a phone could change the way we take photos forever. Don’t believe me? Check out our article on the N8 photos
