Nintendo To Unveil New Console At E3? HD, Backwards-Compatible and Faster Than PS3

Nintendo’s Wii sales have started to slow, and rather than try and prop it up with a new and improved movement controls, oh yeah they already did that, like Sony and Microsoft. They are going to release a next gen Nintendo.

It looks like they are planning a whole new console that is “faster than a PS3” and can output games at 1080p, and will be back-wards compatible.

Three different sources including Game Informer, IGN and Kokato are all running stories that suggest the new, yet to be named console, will be unveiled in part next month, with a further unveiling at this year’s E3 in June.

Now this could be a stroke a genious by the Big N, as Sony and Microsoft aren’t ready to move on from this current generation, as they both launched new controllers which they hope will add extra year’s to each console, well that’s what they hope.

Multiple sources are touting that the system will be capable of running games at HD resolutions and that Nintendo is already showing the tech to third party publishers, to try and get them on board.

"Nintendo is doing this one right," said one anonymous insider. "It's not a casual gimmick like the Wii."

IGN has also got in on the game with its own rumours, claiming that the console will be "significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3"³ and that Nintendo intends to "recapture the hardcore market".

A "pre-announcement" will apparently be issued later this month, with the full reveal scheduled for Nintendo's E3 press conference in early June.

Game Informed said: "It is our understanding that Nintendo is trying to embrace the Western gamer and will likely launch a new brand with this console."

Nintendo has issued a statement which has pretty much confirmed this: "Nintendo does not comment on rumor or speculation" and interestingly told Game Informer to "stay tuned".
