A big clouds a comin'. After Amazon have released their new could based music player the results of a recent survey have hit the web and they suggest that a whopping 50% of CIOs and storage administrators plan to adopt cloud storage. First for email, then front office applications and finally for backup data.
The consumers had their time. 3D and the iPad were the big things last year but this year seem much more business based with the most (non-Apple) fuss being directed at NFC and Cloud.
When you look at the simplicity and effectiveness of cloud computing you wonder why it's taking so long to arrive. I've been inadvertently 'clouding' for years and I'm sure you have to. Those days when you forget your USB stick and send a file to your own email address so you can use it on any computer you like (so long as it's connected to the internet.) It's a genius solution.
The survey, performed by market research firm Storage Strategies NOW (SSG-NOW) was sent out to more than 2,000 end users who had attended Storage Networking World (SNW) trade show in the past. The results were released on Monday at the show here in Santa Clara, Calif.
The way it's going it won't be long until 50% bloats to 100%. In my opinion its going to grow from a luxury to an absolute necessity within a couple of years. What do you think are we all catching cloud fever or is it a genuinely exciting and promising technology. You can never quite tell.
