Sandisk 16GB SDHC & M2 Cards: Tiny but HUGE

With advances in technology (such as the ever-increasing megapixels (MP) being squeezed into digital and mobile phone cameras) and demand from consumers to carry large amounts of music and video on their mobiles, the need for high capacity storage devices is now more evident than ever.

Fear not though, help is at hand from Sandisk in the form of the whopping 16GB MicroSDHC and M2 cards.

These diminutive yet large capacity cards are a godsend to anyone who wants or needs to carry waaaay more music, videos or photographs than is strictly necessary for the average commute to work.

The SDHC (and M2) cards have a read speed of 5MB/sec and a write speed of 1.5MB/sec which seats it in SD speed class 2. And of course, 16GB of storage space. To put that in real terms it equates to roughly 5,000 photos from an 8MP camera, 9,500 from a 5MP! For music it’s a little over 16,500 minutes worth of your average MP3 quality tracks (128KBPS). See, I said it was more than enough for the commute to work!

With a retail price on the UK Sandisk site of £99.99 (inc. VAT) for the SDHC card and £129.99 (inc. VAT) for the M2 card these are a must for anyone who enjoys having a portable media collection on their phone. I’d like to have seen the prices a fair bit lower, particularly for the M2 card, and you’ll need a relatively new mobile phone for it to be compatible, but the capacity on these is impressive indeed. A full list of compatibility can be found at the Sandisk website. In shops and online now.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
