Firefox 4 Beats IE9 In First Day Download Figures.

With the help of HTML5 and hardware graphics acceleration Microsoft's Internet Explorer’s threatened to come back big style after clocking up 2.35 million downloads within the first 24 hours of its release giving Chrome and Firefox a bit of a scare. But now Mozilla is estimating 4.7 million Firefox 4 downloads in the same time frame, crushing IEs download stats.

Not all is good for Firefox though previous version of Firefox, have seen 8 million downloads within 24 hours. But obviously it's not all about day one and we need to see how downloads pan out over the next weeks and months before making any real judgements. In the Mozilla VS Microsoft war, Firefox has a powerful weapon at its disposal in the form of 3D acceleration support.

Over the years, Microsoft’s Internet Explorer browser has seen a steady decline in user base and sometimes seems likely to be completely gobbled up by Chrome and Firefox. But IE has proved it can come back into the game and the browser business is an unpredictable one.

With the way we experience the internet constantly changing it's a case of first to the post wins. Browsers which don't keep up with the technology of the times will quickly fall behind. This is what we've seen with clunky, old-looking IE which is being outplayed by stylish modern browsers. But will Chrome and Firefox continue to dominate or will one destroy the other. IE could stage a comeback or we could see a new kid on the block.

Let's not forget that there's a whole new world opening up in the form of mobile browsing which is getting pushed into new arenas with the rise of the tablet and the fierce growth of the smartphone industry.

  • I think Firefox will beat IE, then Chrome will beat IE with its new version 11 with speech to text!

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
