Today the mysterious white iPhone has staged a comeback. All but forgotten about in the building excitement over iPhone 5 many had thought the handset was scrapped but according to a tweet by Apple exec Phil Schiller it is set for launch later this spring.
Apple had originally planned to release the white iPhone 4 alongside the standard black version last June, but has experienced one delay after another due to 'manufacturing problems.' Is it just me or should it really not be this hard to change the colour of smartphone. Take the Xperia Arc this has been launched with a variety of exotic colours: Midnight Blue, Misty Silver, Sakura Pink
At least the iPad 2 managed to come out in white and black without any issues. In fact after mentioning this at the launch, Steve Jobs got a few laughs out of the audience but behind the smile I'm sure he's kicking himself.
Holding back the white version until shortly after the launch of the black version is a smart move. Once sales start slowing Apple have a way to boost sales, but have they now left it too late? Excitement over the white iPhone has been dampened by the delays. Many customers have given up and opted for the standard iPhone 4 and unless white comes with at a discount price is anyone really going to buy it when iPhone 5 is just around the corner?
