March 25th is set to be a geeks dream. Both the iPad 2 and Nintendo 3DS get their UK launch. There's much talk about the iPad 2 overshadowing the 3DS and maybe even visa versa, but in reality the products are completely different so matching UK release dates are somewhat irrelevant.
Anyway, unless you plan to spend your day queuing for Apple's latest hardware, here's the 3DS release details.
Nintendo has teamed up with HMV for the big day with HMV's flagship London Oxford Street store set to host the 3D console's main UK launch. The device will be sold from one minute past midnight onwards (until they sell-out of course.)
100 other HMV stores are also set to open at midnight across the country and 2,000 Club Nintendo members will be attending a VIP event at London's Old Billingsgate.
According to the Japanese gaming manufactures “Games enthusiasts attending the midnight launch at HMV Oxford Street will not only be among the first in the UK to get their hands on their very own Nintendo 3DS, but the first 500 to purchase the console will each be able to claim a free 3DS game of their choice.”
Now that is a fantastic deal! At last gamers get what they really want (and deserve for forking out so much money and staying up all night) as opposed to the standard T-shirt, key-ring nonsense.
Nintendo continue: “Fans attending the official launch will receive a special commemorative launch-night pack containing numerous Nintendo rewards, including a space blanket to keep them warm whilst queuing, a limited edition launch t-shirt and an exclusive Nintendo 3DS launch edition of Official Nintendo Magazine (whilst stocks last).”
Of course the T-shirt snuck in there! They just can't resist can they.
But never mind that, I must admit I would love to be one of the first 500. A launch day 3DS and free game, yes please.
