Last year, Facebook and Skype tried to work out a strategic alliance between the two but the talks fizzled out. Both the companies were expected to merge their chat platform and provide voice and video chat function. However, as we know, things did not quite work out. Reportedly, the companies are now looking to give it one more shot and have resumed their discussion about possible integration of their chat platforms.
Skype currently provides audio chat facility for Facebook Friends via its News Feed. It also lets you call or text your Facebook friends on their phones using Skype. However, the latest round of discussion is focused on providing video chat facility, whereby you will be able to connect with your Facebook friends and conduct video chat session through your Skype account. The move is likely to benefit both the companies and may pose threat to other videoconferencing services such as Apple's Facetime and Google Talk. Neither company issued any comment on the rumor, so let's just wait and see if Facebook and Skype would be able to sort it out this time over.
