iRecorder for iPod: Movies on the go just got portable

With iPods advancing in technology and and increasing their screen quality, it seems a shame to limit that use to watching the counter tick away as your favourite song plays. Of course you can buy and download video from the Apple iTunes Store, but wouldn’t it be nice to have a wide range of movie choice and not be limited to paying content costs determined by Apple? With the iRecorder, you can upload any movie onto your MP3 player and not just the latest Angelina Jolie flick.

The iRecorder is easy-as-pie to use. Simply plug it into both your TV and your portable media player, then take a seat as it compresses your movie and uploads it onto your device. Without a computer in sight, this nifty gadget will effortlessly reduce a two hour movie into a 2 Gig MPEG4 file.

The beauty of the iRecorder is its versatility. It will record from analogue TV, cable, set top box, satellite receiver box, DVD or your Camcorder. If there’s a RCA jack output from your source, you can plug it into the iRecorder’s AV-IN jack. There is also an AV OUT for you to work in reverse and play your iPod video on a larger screen.

There is also a USB jack which lets you plug in your iPod, and store your recorded video directly onto it. The iRecorder is compatible with iPods, Nano (3rd generation), iPod Classic or any other USB device media device that can play Mpeg4s.

What if you’ve always wanted to watch Lord of the Rings on your way to work everyday? Well even this is possible as for every 1GB of storage that your iPod has, the iRecorder will give you 3 hours of footage.

Unfortunately this device is not compatible with the iPhone or iPod Touch, however you can get around this by recording onto the USB drive and import the video using iTunes.

  • Any word on what the price range will be for this. Its a great gadget, it’s about time someone came up with something like this. Can’t wait to put some home movies on there.

  • It retails for £99.95 so there’s a bit of an outlay involved, but if you’re going to save money by not buying movies on iTunes, it may well be worth it.

  • Thank you it is a nice article with very nice informations.

  • Read the reviews. These things have a lot of problems with picture freeze and sound. They are NOT worth the money.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
