January does not seem to be a good month for video games. NPD Group, in its latest survey findings, stated that the video game sales
declined 5 percent during the first month of the year. The hardware sales were hit by an even bigger decline at 8 percent. Video game sales during the month totaled to $576 million, whereas hardware sales brought home $324 million. The silver lining was in the form of sale of accessories, which increased by 6 percent to $235 million.
Microsoft may be having tough times on other fronts, but its Xbox 360 is certainly doing well since it was the only game console to see growth in the month of January. The company sold 381,000 units during the month, which is 14.1 percent increase over its January, 2010 performance. Among the top rankers in the gaming section are Call of Duty: Black Ops, Just Dance 2 and Dead Space 2. UBISoft's Michael Jackson The Experience was also among the top 10 software titles in the month of January.
