Android Honeycomb And Gingerbread to Form Ice Cream

With most of the MWC announcements behind us Google’s CEO Eric Schnidt took to the stage to speak about the continued fragmentation of their OS – in the speech he said they recognise this concern and told delegates that they are going to combine both Honeycomb with Gingerbread to form Ice Cream.

While we welcome updates to Google’s Android, Schmidt is also apparently worried that the irregular spacing of new iterations of Android is fragmenting the OS, to combat which he also announced that Google would move to a more regular system of updates coming every six months.

So expect a new update in June and July with many of the new features of Honeycomb and Gingerbread combining to make one unified version – well that’s the plan – for us it’s all becoming a little confusing – let’s hope Google makes good on the promise and make Android a easier OS to understand and everyone who has it are on the same version – fragmentation is a real concern.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
