Samsung really are on a flyer at the moment – they seem to be revelling in the challenge from Apple, so let’s introduce you to their latest toy – the Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0
Now it’s not on show at MWC – but it is behind closed doors – so what it all about ? Well, in simpleton terms at Galaxy S that’s not a phone – and a lot more besides.
It’s boasting a slighly squarer look to it, so doesn’t look identical to the phone version, but we’ve definetly got something that is a viable alternative to an iPod – can anyone say iPod killer for us – apparently we’re not aloud to use cliches like this – oh well.
It’s packing a 5-inch screen 0.3 bigger that the Galaxy S screen – with the same tech so expect to find a AMOLED screen that so sharp it will require lazer eye surgery if you stare at it’s pretty looks too long – well that’s an exaggeration – but it’s pretty frickin’ sharp.
It will also come with a HDMI out and microSD card slot - and crucially it would appear to have Google certification, so Google Maps, Gmail and the Android Market should all be present.
It does however look like the Samsung Galaxy S Wi-Fi 5.0 is running Android 2.2 or lower, rather than 2.3, based on the notification bar at the top. Still, given Samsung's solid media format support in its Android devices, we reckon it'll make quite the iPod touch rival. Expect an official announcement imminently and more bells and whistles to impress you with. Let the battle commence.
