I'm a great believer that organisation and planning makes life much easier. So when I'm about to set out on a journey, I like to know exactly where I'm going and how to get there. The embarrassment of turning up to a meeting late is just too much to endure.
So to those of you with a Satmap Active 10 Sports GPS device (or those of you who are just geeky like us here at Gaj-It.com!) you may want to read on.
Yesterday, Satmap announced the development of an easy to use, online route planner, free (now that's what I like to hear) to Satmap registered customers.
Customers will have access to Ordance Survey 1:25k Explorer and 1:25k Landranger mapping. Routes can be printed off on paper or uploaded to the Active 10 Sports GPS.
Customers in Great Britain will also have the option to plan routes using aerial photography. We are advised that mapping for the rest of the world will follow.
Users will be given their own personal storage area online, allowing them to save their routes for future use.
Richard Calthrop-Owen, Managing Director, Satmap Systems commented: “The route planner is very easy to use and we are really pleased to be able to offer this service free of charge to our customers. Since we launched, we’ve been listening to our customers’ feedback and we know they will be delighted to be able to plan exciting new routes on their PCs and then head out into the country to enjoy them - all the time tracking their progress on the Active 10.”
Another nice little extra for anybody interested in GPX Routes is the Route Share Forum. Users can upload their favourite routes to the site. Visitors can view routes on the Microsoft Virtual Earth map prior to selection and download the GPX file onto their Active 10 free of charge.
The forum is promised to be easy to use, offering clear and comprehensive descriptions and categorised routes, such as walking, mountain biking etc. The search facility enables rapid route selection and a multiple route download option.
The online route planner and share forum will be available next month at Satmap.com.
