O2 To Launch NFC Service This Year.

We told you it was coming and it is. NFC is breaking out into the world big-time. Everything Everywhere (an Orange and T-mobile partnership in association with Barclaycard) are set to bring out NFC enabled SIM cards to allow customers to pay using their mobile in places such as McDonalds, Co-Op, EAT etc (with more to come.)

And now, hot on their heels are O2 who have just revealed plans to launch a mobile wallet service using NFC technology in the second half of 2011.

O2 has said that it will apply for an e-money operating licence from the FSA, which will allow the network to offer money transfers between customers, as well as contactless payments at 60,000 venues around the UK.

The network are keen to get the mobile payments service up and running before the onslaught of the 2012 Olympics hits London next year.

So get ready to pay for your Big Mac with your iPhone.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
