Recently, we had reported about the probable arrival of NFC feature to iPhone 5 and iPad 2. However, the rumor has now got some solid backing. Some Apple enthusiasts at Apple Insider have uncovered a job post listed by Apple. The listing pertains to engineers with RFID knowledge. Additionally, the company is also looking for experts on global payment platforms, which lends even more weight to NFC rumor.
RFID is a type of near field communication technology and can be used for the secure wireless transmission of data in close proximity. It is also being said that Apple may revamp its iTunes program for making it more amenable to the new technology. However, we will have to wait till the actual launch to see if the rumors are true or not. Even in 2009, it was rumored that Apple was testing RFID swipe support, while in 2010, it was claimed that Apple has already built RFID enabled handsets. While those rumors turned out to be just rumors, we hope that this time we get to see NFC feature of iOS products.
