Like any sought after device, the Sony PSP 2 has had its fair share of rumours and speculation on what it will look like, it specs and a possible launch date.
Well, the rumours can all now be put to rest as Sony has officially announced the PSP (code named NGP - Next Generation Portable) at the Sony Live event in Tokyo.
The Sony PSP2 is expected to feature a 5 inch OLED touchscreen display with 960 x 544 resolution, a front and rear camera, dual analog stick and touch sensitive panel on the back of the console.
Under its bonnet it will come with a tilt sensitive SIXAXIS controls, an electronic compass and a quad-core ARM Cortex-A9 processor.
As for connectivity it is packed with 3G and WiFi and a new type of storage for games (which hasn't been detailed yet) as well as stereo speakers and a microphone.
The console's user interface will be called Live Area, which includes navigational homes screen and built in social networking feature so you can jump between game playing and Live Area without compromising on your game playing.
It has also been confirmed that we could see the new PSP2 hit stores this holiday season, which may feel like a lifetime away as we have just recovered from our last one but it is definitely one worth waiting for don't you think?
