O2 has announced about its launch of a public Wi-Fi network, which means free internet access for everyone irrespective of the fact whether they are O2 customers or not. The company will now replace 450 of its cloud hotspots. O2 also has an ambitious plan of offering more premium hotspots than currently offered by BT Openzone and The Cloud combined. Expect this plan to be executed by 2013.

O2 is planning to set up its hot spots at places like retail outlets and restaurants. While O2 customers will be automatically signed in, others will be able to log in via simple sign up process. The company also stressed that this would bring "high quality Wi-Fi access" to the masses. The company officials said that the users are generally discouraged by complex activation process and uncertainty about the free status of Wi-Fi. Well, it all sounds hunky dory and we could not find any catch in it. But keep watching this space for getting the updates about this seemingly good news.

An absolute tech junky, I graduated from the University of Manchester with a degree in Computing and now live on the outskirts of Leeds working with you guessed it, Computers. I love all things gadgety but really dislike wires. For those of you who haven’t worked it out the name of the site is a combination of my nickname (Gaj) and the pronunciation ‘Gadget’.
